position purpose

on both a scheduled work order basis and in response to emergencies, performs maintenance and repair to dartmouth college academic and administration buildings, structures, and related fixtures and utilities, using a variety of trade practices associated with the occupations such as plumbing, electrical, hvac , carpentry, and other related trades.

the building service technician ii position applies a specific level of skill and proficiency in the execution of these duties related to all systems at dartmouth college. Duties include regular maintenance responsibilities requiring ability with minor carpentry and basic electric, plumbing and hvac repairs while developing a level of skill on campus building automation systems and more complicated systems located in the areas of responsibility, such as rodi systems, pool certification, heat recovery systems.

Assists building service technicians iii and iv in more complex tasks as needed, or as a learning opportunity.

required qualifications - skills, knowledge and abilities

  • four-plus years of experience and knowledge with mep systems and controls.
  • valid driver’s license and ability to qualify under the terms of the dartmouth college driver safety and motor vehicle policy.
  • ability to perform carpentry repairs such as repair specialty items such as blackboards, and work with raised floor systems..
  • ability to perform minor electric repairs and demonstrate general understanding of electrical systems and their operation.
  • ability to perform plumbing repairs such as fixture replacement, fix leaking valves, use pro-press fitting and solder joints to make minor pipe/valve repairs, repair minor sections of pipe insulation. Demonstrates general understanding of hot/cold water systems and sanitary waste systems.
  • ability to make basic hvac repairs and service including air and water filter replacement, replace belts, clean coils. Demonstrates general understanding of hvac equipment and systems operation.
  • ability to use hvac building automation system programs to troubleshoot building issues. Ability to use specialty control systems to troubleshoot laboratory and greenhouse systems as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of campus building…
