Scope of Job: A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) under the supervision of the faculty and/or staff, may assist faculty with various lab related tasks, provide guidance to students on lab processes, protocols and safety, laboratory operational needs such as prep and set up and other associated duties, as assigned. Graduate Teaching Assistants provide professional level laboratory teaching assistance under the direct supervision of a faculty supervisor or staff.

Work schedules will vary depending on department needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be admitted to a graduate degree program
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher appropriate to the area of service
  • Be registered full-time for the respective semester—nine (9) semester credit hours during the fall semester, nine (9) semester credit hours during the spring semester, three (3) semester credit hours during the summer session, or be registered in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements of the degree plan.
Roles/Responsibilities
  • Organizes and conducts open lab sessions for clinical skill development
  • Performs skill checks with students, provides peer mentorship
  • Assist the lab instructor to provide student support in the open lab format including student interaction, technique demonstration, and reinforcing concepts introduced in the lecture and labs.
  • Graduate Teaching Assistants are also responsible for maintaining professional interactions with their students, staff, faculty and supervisors. They will submit biweekly reports to the direct supervisor in a timely fashion and attend meetings, as scheduled.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, staff and students
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications
