This role emphasizes prevention, early intervention, and ongoing support of the mental well‑being of officers and first responders by providing confidential services, peer‑based initiatives, and professional resources designed to address direct and indirect trauma encountered in the line of duty.
This is a grant‑funded position. Continuation of the role is contingent upon renewal of funding; if the grant is not renewed, the position will not continue.
- Requires a broad knowledge of trauma‑informed care, stress management, and culturally competent practices.
- Requires effective written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in various software packages including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to establish trust and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must be a team player who is able to work in a fast‑paced environment with deadlines.
- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
- Requires the ability to produce all reports, correspondence and other documents without support staff.
- Requires the ability to communicate with internal and external customers across disciplines and with diverse stakeholders.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social work, behavioral science, counseling or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience working with law enforcement, first responders, or other high‑stress professions preferred.
Position requires applicant to pass a full background investigation and polygraph test.
Must be in compliance with the department’s drug and tattoo policy.
Due to Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements, the candidate must never have been convicted, put on court‑ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offence above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Deferred Adjudication or Felony Conviction are permanent disqualifiers.
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen, Titmus vision screening and Ishihara vision screening.
Position may require after‑hours obligations.
