Overview
PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
To maintain school district vehicles (buses, trucks, vans, mowers, tractors, forklifts with diesel and gasoline fuels) in good, sound, and safe condition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED
- Certification in areas of responsibility
- CDL License with passenger endorsement
- Valid Texas Bus Driver Certification
- Special Knowledge/
Skills: - Advance knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair
- Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs independently
- Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
- Ability to pass bus driver safety training, including First Aid and CPR training
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate school vehicles, including school buses
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders and route descriptions
- Ability to adjust to and deviate from a route under varying traffic/weather conditions
- Ability to administer first aid when necessary
- Experience: Five (5) years experience in truck mechanics.
- Punctuality.
- Observes all State and Federal laws concerning the transportation of students and operation of a bus and maintenance vehicles on the road.
- Originates and executes daily paperwork necessary to the department.
- Possibility exists of carrying or pulling students to safety.
- Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions
- Ability to perform basic first aid procedures when necessary
- Attend in-service meetings for new and remedial training.
- Supports all Local Board Policies.
- Be responsible for the repair and general maintenance of all District vehicles.
- Keep an inventory and be responsible for assigned tools and equipment.
- Maintain safety standards when operating tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Mechanic should be dressed in a moderate and suitable way that will not hinder the operation of machines or a school vehicle; only closed shoes are acceptable.
- Work cooperatively with other personnel and departments in maintaining school district vehicles in top conditions.
School bus and district vehicles. Hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, jack, and lift equipment.
Working Conditions- Mental Demands: Reading and comprehension of reading materials; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to operate a computer.
- Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Operate district vehicles, repetitive hand motions, prolonged use of computer. Walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
Calendar: 250 work days
Minimum: $17.41 per hour
