Role Overview
As a locum Respiratory Consultant with The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust you will support patients and families, coordinate treatment plans, provide monitoring and team communication, lead multidisciplinary teams, assess patient requirements, review patient condition, perform clerical tasks, conduct research, and teach/advise junior doctors and team members.
Responsibilities- Actively support patients and families communicating clinical information to explain diagnosis and treatment options using various methods.
- Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe various types of treatment.
- Provide constant monitoring and care for patients.
- Communicate with patients and the wider multidisciplinary team on shared decision making.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team where appropriate.
- Assess and prioritise patient requirements, delegating effectively to others.
- Recognise, review, and report a patient's condition and any changes to the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
- Perform basic administrative and clerical tasks keeping records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing information and monitoring treatment plans.
- Conduct research to help develop and test techniques and equipment that can improve procedures and outcomes.
- Help teach and train other junior doctors, medical students and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Be a GMC registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
- Have relevant experience at Consultant level, or references to support transition up to Consultant level.
- Hold evidence of stand‑alone Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
- Pass an enhanced background check (DBS).

As a locum consultant in respiratory medicine you will apply your skills across both acute respiratory medicine and general medicine fields, support patient demand throughout the hospital, provide diagnostic reasoning and acute exacerbations of COPD, and serve as a pillar of clinical and educational support for junior doctors and trainees. You will have access to advanced medical equipment and opportunities for specialism, research and academia throughout your consultancy.
