We are looking to recruit a highly motivated medical education fellow in medical education with an interest in simulation training. The aim of this post is to work together with the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Medical Education teams to help coordinate, deliver and develop medical education, across the interdisciplinary spectrum, at our main site, the Princess Alexandra hospital NHS Trust in Harlow.
There will be an emphasis on helping to deliver and support medical simulation training within the department as well as helping deliver medical education to medical students from Queen Marys University London (QMUL) and Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Medical Schools. In addition, the successful applicant will be supported in their personal educational development and encouraged to seek opportunities of further postgraduate qualifications in this area.
duties of the job
- Fixed commitments for reporting and attendance at meetings.
- Attend the Undergraduate Education Committee & report on activity of all teaching fellows.
- Attend bimonthly Medical Education Committee Meetings and provision of SCTF report to the meeting.
- Formal attendance at the annual school site visit is mandatory.
- Written reports or attendance to the quarterly medical education committee.
- Senior resident will chair a regular forum for the FY3 teaching fellows to report on activity.
- Fortnightly meeting with the Associate Dean for person development.
- 1:1 access to the Chief Medical Officer at regular scheduled meetings.
- Supporting other members of the Education Department when requested.
- Assisting in interviews for new FY3 Teaching Fellows and Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow.
- SCTF will chair a regular forum for the FY3 teaching fellows to report on activity.
- Coordinating bimonthly meetings with the AD, SCTF and FY3 Teaching Fellows.
- Managing areas of difficulty for the FY3 Teaching Fellows.

The post holder will be supported by the Medical Education team. The medical education fellow will help to supervise and work closely alongside a group of FY3 teaching fellows who are employed in joint clinical and educational roles within the trust. The post is designed to allow full time educational activities but includes time allowance to maintain clinical practice in your chosen speciality area for one day per week, at a level dependant on the applicant’s experience and qualification.
The post holder will be encouraged and supported to further their educational development through the formal study of medical education. Enrolment in a formal programme such as a postgraduate certificate would be supported and time allowed in the programme for study.
