Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Paediatric Dietitian to join the Therapy Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will work as part of a team of paediatric dietitians to provide a comprehensive dietetic service across the Trust, including the childrens ward, regular outpatient clinics, and the home enteral feeding service. You will be responsible for assessing and managing the nutritional needs of paediatric inpatients, supporting families with dietary advice, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, evidence-based care.
You will also manage aspects of the childrens ward and contribute to the neonatal unit, working closely with the paediatric team lead to deliver high-quality, patient-centered nutrition support.
Main duties of the job
As a Paediatric Dietitian, you will cover regular outpatient clinics, reviewing referrals from a variety of specialties as well as the local Child Development Centre, which may include children with neuro-disabilities such as cerebral palsy or social and communication disorders such as autism. You will review and adjust home enteral feeding plans, coordinating with the community nursing team to ensure appropriate feeding equipment and support.
You will also educate and train healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based nutritional advice and contribute to the training and supervision of dietetic students from the University of Hertfordshire, supporting the development of future dietitians within the department.

Job Role s & Responsibilities
* To develop and maintain advanced clinical knowledge and practice, ensuring dietetic interventions are evidence-based and in line with Trust and BDA guidelines. You will actively keep up to date with advances in paediatric nutrition and contribute to professional clinical groups, CPD activities, and reflective practice.
* To evaluate and improve the quality of your dietetic practice, using audits, service reviews, and research to enhance patient care. You will analyse outcomes, implement improvements, and ensure that all interventions meet national and local standards.
* To maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation in line with legal, regulatory, and departmental requirements. You will manage confidential patient information responsibly, communicate findings to colleagues, and ensure data integrity in all systems used for patient records or service audits.
* To provide specialist education, training, and mentorship to colleagues, lower-grade staff, and dietetic students. You will contribute to developing training materials, support professional growth of the team, and guide others in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
* To contribute to the development and review of departmental policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, ensuring they are up-to-date, evidence-based, and aligned with Trust priorities. You will collaborate with other health professionals for their implementation and continuous improvement.
* To act autonomously and manage professional accountability for all aspects of your work. You will oversee clinical risk management within your responsibilities, organise work efficiently, and ensure safe, high-quality patient care across your caseload.
Person Specifications & Qualifications
* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
* HCPC-registered Dietitian.
* Evidence of post-registration training and CPD.
* Paediatric experience in inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Committed to ongoing professional development.
