Location:

Harlow/Glenrothes/Livingston Permanent, Onsite full time Raytheon UK is looking for an experienced (minimum 10 years) and high performing Firmware Engineer to join a successful Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) team within the Advanced Products Mission Area, creating Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems for the military market. This is on site role with time split between Raytheon’s Harlow, Glenrothes and Livingston facility as required by the business.

The successful candidate will report directly to the APNT Digital Engineering Manager whilst working closely with the APNT Chief Engineer in creating architectures and design solutions. The Senior Firmware Engineer will be able to make their mark on a broad and varied range of product designs and will be expected to assist in the integration of these designs into products, being the focal point for the complete system.

The successful candidate will have access to professional development opportunities and be part of the growing Defence Business in Raytheon UK, delivering engineering expertise across a wide range of projects to both military and civil customers worldwide.

Main Duties:
  • Architecture for all aspects of digital domain, including FPGA Firmware, DSP Algorithms development, modelling, and software
  • Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts in the APNT products with latest FPGA technologies
  • Develop requirements to ensure compliance to the relevant standards (including DO-178 and DO-254)
  • Create and manage modular architecture for firmware and software
  • Understand, decompose and verify firmware requirements
  • Define and perform unit level and sub system level testing for firmware and software
  • Work alongside our systems, software and electronic design engineers
  • Generate supporting design documentation and perform regular technical reviews
Candidate Requirements:
  • Essential:
    Experience working with FPGAs and SoC technologies, mainly Xilinx
  • Experience creating firmware architectures (modular open system design)
  • Experience of creating model-based design and testing/verifying it against requirements
  • Ability to write FPGA design using VHDL
  • Ability to design Processing System within SoC FGPAs
  • Present technical information clearly and concisely to others
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Mentor and support less experienced member of the team
  • An openness to learn and try new techniques
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment - working independently or with others to overcome obstacles
  • Capable of analysing and reporting on technical data
  • Eligible or holder of current SC security clearance
  • Desirable:
    Experience using the Vivado and Vitis design tools, or equivalent
  • Experience working with the Xilinx chip family
  • Experience delivering embedded firmware as part of a product
  • Experience creating embedded system architectures
  • Familiarity with the application of a systems engineering approach across the design and development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of defence engineering / airborne standards
  • Working with Model Based System Engineering tools such as Simulink
