Software Engineer, Software Architect, Backend Developer

As a Staff Software Engineer, you are a senior individual contributor who leads technical direction for a team or group of teams. You take on our most complex and ambiguous engineering problems, design the systems behind our loan origination, underwriting, and servicing platforms, and raise the quality of engineering across the organization. You will work in an environment of high-volume transactions, sensitive borrower and financial data, and third-party integrations.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role. You will still write code, but your largest impact comes from architecture, unblocking teams, and growing the engineers around you.

• Lead the technical direction and architecture for systems owned by one or more teams, and align that work with the broader platform.
• Break down ambiguous, high-impact problems into clear plans, and drive them from design to delivery across teams.
• Design systems for scale, reliability, security, and maintainability, and make pragmatic tradeoffs between them.
• Write, review, and improve code in high-impact and high-risk areas, especially lending‑critical workflows such as underwriting, pricing, and closing.
• Partner with product managers, QA, design, and business stakeholders to turn challenging business problems and vague requirements into clear technical plans.
• Lead design reviews and technical decisions, building consensus across teams with different priorities.
• Own the technical integrity of integrations with loan origination systems, credit bureaus, pricing engines, and other third‑party vendors.
• Build security, privacy, auditability, and regulatory requirements into our systems, including correct handling of PII and financial data.
• Mentor senior and mid‑level engineers, and set standards for code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
