General Construction Laborer (Civil Construction)

Overview

General Construction Laborer in Civil Construction responsible for assisting on a wide variety of construction sites. Tasks include unloading, loading, moving materials, clearing debris, and many more duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of construction sites, unloading, loading, and moving construction materials, and clearing debris and hazards.
  • Prepare the worksite for demolition and installation of concrete slabs, sidewalk, curb, and storm water collection.
  • Aligns and braces formwork necessary for concrete placement.
  • Installing reinforcement steel as needed and directed by supervisor.
  • Form, pour, and finish concrete using a wide variety of tools and equipment.
  • Disassemble and clean concrete forms after concrete placement.
  • Shovel, dig trenches, backfill holes, grade and compact stone, dirt, sand, and other materials.
  • Install storm water structures and piping.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, jackhammers, and other equipment.
  • Direct traffic near construction sites when necessary to ensure the safety of workers and the public, including set up and maintenance of cones, barricades and safety fencing.
  • Strong commitment to attendance and punctuality a must.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Experience in construction or a related field (preferred).
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, climb, work in challenging environments and on uneven surfaces, and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to remain alert and see, hear, and respond to team members and the surrounding environment in highly safety‑sensitive working conditions and near large heavy civil equipment and/or live traffic.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass Company pre-employment drug screen.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel out of town as needed.
