General Information

JMU's Facilities Management is currently seeking someone to fill the position of a Buyer Specialist. This position will provide efficient and responsible customer service in facilitating the purchase of non-stock goods and services with a concentration of over $10k that meet the needs of the department.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Receiving and verifying requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Discussing procurement requests with originator to ensure scope, goods and/or services are documented.
  • Assisting procurement staff in renewing yearly service contracts.
  • Determining appropriate method of procurement according to purchasing delegation limits and University policy/procedures.
  • Contacting vendors to obtain documentation to support the value of the purchase or the contract pricing detail.
  • Maintaining and reconciling monthly credit card log for purchases.
  • Ensuring invoices are accurately monitored, processed and entered in databases in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring invoice discrepancies are handled in a timely manner and invoice pricing is correct.
  • Assisting with implementation, upgrade and testing with software program (AIM).
  • Participating in policy reviews and providing feedback.
  • Assisting with implementation and training.
  • Assisting with supervisor requests and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge in policies and procedures relating to governmental procurement.
  • Knowledge in minimizing the cost of goods, supplies and services.
  • Ability to compile, analyze and interpret data to prepare procurement reports.
  • Experience working with automated accounting and/or facility maintenance data systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to describe the scope and specifications of purchases with detail.
  • Effective communication, verbally, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain documents to audit standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide a high level of detail and accuracy to ensure mistakes and oversights are corrected quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to temporarily work another shift based on business needs if needed.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience working with eVA, AIM and/or People Soft.
