Sentara Health Emergency Dispatcher

Location: Harrisonburg, VA and Virginia Beach, VA – onsite second shift (16:30–1:00 AM, rotating weekends, 3 holidays).

Sentara Communications Assistants play a critical role facilitating emergent and non‑emergent communication across all Sentara hospitals and free‑standing emergency departments (12 hospitals, 4 FSEDs). The Emergency Dispatcher will receive, activate, and track complex emergency alerts such as security, facility, and medical alerts, activate paging groups, contact on‑call providers, coordinate and track responses from physicians, specialized nursing teams, air and ground transport, and activate the Sentara Emergency Notification system for mass notifications.

Receive and activate emergency calls and complex alerts.
• Coordinate on‑call scheduling, escalations, and communication between nurses, physicians, and transport teams.
• Track and report responses; activate mass notification systems as needed.
• Assist in training new employees and perform additional duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of customer service experience and two years in a call center.
• Must have experience in emergency management and/or 911 emergency dispatch.
• Understanding of medical terminology preferred.
