The Outdoor Learning Center and Camp Horizons are looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring staff to lead groups through equestrian experiences such as trail rides, ring rides, and horse care lessons in addition to caring for our herd of horses. You’ll develop your skills and love of horses while providing unforgettable experiences for clients of a variety of ages and abilities.
Responsibilities- Equestrian Program Staff are responsible for the care and management of groups while delivering high-quality equestrian programming. They are expected to create a positive atmosphere while establishing opportunities for learning and growth for our clients. Our clients include public and private schools, colleges and universities, scout groups, specialty retreats, as well as campers ages 6-16. Instructors will also be responsible for the logistics before, during, and after the programming.
This includes providing care for our herd of horses, preparing riding rings, preparing equipment, as well as cleaning and general maintenance. - April–June:
Assist with and facilitate ring rides, trail rides, and horse care through the Outdoor Learning Center. Weekends required, with flexible weekday hours. - June–July–August:
Assist with and facilitate English riding lessons and horse care for Camp Horizons campers, ages 6-16. Facilitate trail rides. Monday–Friday with weekend work available. - September–November:
Assist with and facilitate ring rides, trail rides, and horse care through the Outdoor Learning Center. Flexible weekday hours. - December–March:
Participate as needed in the overall care of the horses, equestrian area, and equipment. Assist with re-conditioning horses in the middle of March as weather allows. - Additional responsibilities:
Participate in the maintenance of our herd of horses including feeding, grooming, haying, watering, exercising, daily turnout, and cleaning stalls and paddocks. - Promotes a safe environment where individuals will feel comfortable challenging themselves.
- Recognizes and responds to opportunities for problem solving with the group.
- Minimum 1-year equestrian experience such as riding lessons, horse care, and trail rides.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to attain.
