Overview

The Public Works Department Technician II - Facility Maintenance is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $21.91 - $24.10 per hour (equivalent to $45,572 - $50,128 annually); however, an exact salary will be determined in compliance with City Policy Section 3:
Compensation. Applicants who do not meet the qualifications for the Technician II level may be considered for another level within the department at an annual rate commensurate with applicant qualifications.
- Preferred Hiring Ranges:
- Journeyman: $19.15 - $20.59 per hour (equivalent to $39,832 - $42,827 annually)
- Technician I: $20.05 - $22.06 per hour (equivalent to $41,704 - $45,884 annually)
- Perform technical work with leadership qualities to promote a positive work environment and initiative to achieve work objectives.
- Across city facilities, perform diverse maintenance tasks including rough and finished carpentry, repairing wooden structures and equipment, roof leak repairs, panel and tile installation, and roof maintenance.
- Electrical work (such as installing and replacing basic wiring, switches, and light sources), masonry, HVAC system maintenance, plumbing, and food service equipment installation.
- Welding, use of various hand and power tools, and operation of machinery; operate city vehicles for assignments and snow removal as needed.
- Perform preventive automotive maintenance, minor vehicle repairs, and pre-trip inspections.
- Respond to work orders, maintain documentation, ensure regular attendance, and support other trades as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned depending on business needs.
- High school diploma or GED and considerable (3-5 years) experience in one or more of the building trades, maintenance, repair, and/or construction work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver s license. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within six months of hire. Paid, on-the-job training will be provided.
- Possession of current Virginia Department of Transportation Intermediate Work Zone Safety Certification within six months of hire date or as class scheduling permits.
