Job Description & How to Apply Below
You’ve powered through lectures, late-night essays, and the final push of your dissertation. Now comes the exciting bit, figuring out where your degree can really take you.
If you’re a Psychology graduate based in North Yorkshire, and you’re curious about working with young people in education, this could be the perfect place to start.
We’re looking for graduates to support pupils in SEMH schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and alternative provision settings across Harrogate and surrounding areas. These roles are hands-on, meaningful, and genuinely rewarding.
Pay: £93–£118 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Location:
Harrogate and nearby areas
Start:
Immediate starts available, with ongoing opportunities
Why Psychology Graduates Thrive in These Roles
This isn’t your typical classroom job. You’ll be supporting young people who need patience, consistency, and someone who understands behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
It’s where everything you studied begins to click into place.
In this role, you’ll:
• Support pupils with SEMH and additional needs
• Help young people rebuild confidence and reconnect with learning
• Encourage positive routines and behaviour
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students who need it most
• Gain experience that strengthens future PGCE, Master’s, or Assistant Psychologist applications
Some days will challenge you. Others will remind you exactly why you chose psychology in the first place.
What Makes This a Brilliant First Step
Many graduates move into long-term or permanent school roles
Ideal experience for careers in teaching, educational psychology, youth work, or mental health support
Practical experience schools and universities genuinely value
Ongoing support from a local Leeds-based consultant who understands the sector
Who This Role Suits Best
We’d love to hear from graduates who are:
• Based in or able to travel around Harrogate and North Yorkshire
• Calm, empathetic, and resilient
• Confident building positive relationships with young people
• Curious, proactive, and happy to learn on the job
Helpful Experience (But Not Essential)
Experience in any of the following is a bonus:
• Psychology, Criminology, or related degrees
• Youth work, mentoring, or support work
• SEMH, SEND, or PRU environments
• Tutoring in English, Maths, or Science
• Sports, drama, or creative activities with young people
• Behaviour support or Team Teach training
If you’re new to education, that’s completely fine. The most important things are attitude, empathy, and commitment. We can help with the rest.
