About the Role

This full-time position starting in September is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated educator to take a leading role within a thriving Art & Design faculty. The position is primarily focused on delivering high-quality, engaging Design & Technology lessons to Key Stage 3 (KS3) students, establishing foundational skills in material manipulation, safety, and iterative design. The successful candidate will guide young learners through the social, ethical, and environmental influences of technology, helping them critique form and function while building confidence in their practical and independent manufacturing capabilities.

Key Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
  • KS3 Expertise: Proven experience teaching Design & Technology within a UK secondary school setting, with an emphasis on KS3 curriculum structures.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.
Key Skills Required
  • Subject Expertise: Advanced knowledge of modern Design & Technology concepts, including resistant materials, graphics, and electronics.
  • Pedagogical Adaptability: Ability to differentiate complex engineering and design concepts for varying learning needs at the KS3 level.
  • Behavior Management: Excellent capability to maintain a calm, highly focused, and safe environment in a high-risk practical setting.
  • IT Literacy: Proficient use of educational technology, interactive whiteboards, and digital tracking tools.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and faculty staff.
  • Creative Lesson Design: Ability to build highly engaging, bespoke schemes of work that trigger curiosity and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive, and practical DT lessons primarily tailored to KS3 cohorts.
  • Student Assessment: Regular marking, constructive feedback, and thorough tracking of student progress to optimise academic growth.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all tools, machinery, and CAD/CAM equipment are maintained in a safe, fully operational condition.
  • Curriculum

    Collaboration:

    Work alongside the Art & Design faculty to develop innovative resources and share best practices.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce rigorous workshop safety rules consistently to guarantee the physical welfare of all peers and students.
  • Inclusivity Promotion: Design tailored learning pathways to ensure students with SEND and additional needs achieve maximum success.
  • Pastoral Care: Act as a positive role model, championing the school's commitment to mental health, safety, and mutual respect.
  • Resource Management: Monitor and manage material stock levels, preparing materials efficiently ahead of practical sessions.
  • Parental Engagement: Provide clear, professional updates on student progress during parent evenings and through written reports.
  • Extra-Curricular Support: Contribute to the wider life of the school by supporting design clubs, exhibitions, or open evenings.
