Rate: £90‑£120 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities)
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:15am‑4:15pm
We are working with a welcoming and inclusive school in York that is committed to ensuring every child can access high‑quality education, including those with additional needs. The school supports pupils with a range of SEN – including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs – within a mainstream classroom environment.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils one‑on‑one or in small groups within the mainstream classroom.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using school‑wide strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCO to adapt lessons and ensure inclusive practice.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in pupils with additional needs.
- Provide classroom support to help create a calm, structured learning environment.
- Experience supporting children with SEN in a mainstream or similar setting.
- A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach to working with pupils who may need additional support.
- A strong understanding of inclusive practice within mainstream education.
- Adaptability and confidence when supporting pupils with varying needs.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Hold Right to Work in the UK.
- Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service or be willing to apply as one.
- Provide two child‑related professional references.
- Competitive daily rate based on experience.
- Supportive mainstream school environment with strong leadership and SEN provision.
