The Histopathology department is looking for a HCPC registered non-specialist Biomedical Scientist. The role will involve taking direct responsibility for all the results produced and work performed including quality control and assurance.
Main duties of the jobYou will be expected to actively participate in all clinical laboratory tasks to support the specialised diagnostic service for patients in the Histopathology department performing routine diagnostic testing procedures on histology and non gynae cytology samples. Duties may also include:
- Accurate descriptive note taking whilst assisting the pathologist at specimen dissection.
- Production of digital images of specimens.
- Processing and embedding tissue blocks.
- Production of high quality sections.
- Specialised staining techniques.
- Assessment of all stained slides for quality and accuracy.

Harrogate District Hospital Laboratory is part of the Integrated Pathology Solutions team. Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users but the successful candidate will be employed directly by the NHS as a Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust employee.

Person Specification Qualifications- IBMS accredited BSc degree or equivalent
- HCPC Registered
- IBMS membership
- Experience of working in a clinical histopathology NHS Laboratory for a minimum of 12 months
- Experience of non-gynae cytology procedures
- Knowledge of histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety issues in pathology
- Knowledge of UKAS accreditation for clinical laboratories
- Knowledge and understanding of IT in a pathology environment
