Staff Nurse

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is looking for enthusiastic and caring Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our Elective Orthopaedic Ward on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.

Main duties of the job
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based care is provided to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and interventions from admission to discharge.
  • Delegate care to unregistered carers while retaining responsibility for care.
  • Be flexible and willing to be redeployed within the sphere of clinical expertise to provide support and facilitate safe staffing across the Trust when required.
  • Ensure that all patients have a safe and effective discharge plan; collaborate with the integrated discharge team for complex discharges.
  • Take on the Shift Co‑ordinator (nurse in charge) role on a shift basis once competency is achieved.
  • Adhere to the Trust Uniform and Corporate Dress Code Policy at all times.
  • Support quality improvement projects, enhancing the standards of care.
  • Provide a learning environment for nursing students and other learners.
  • Attend mandatory training and keep all training records up to date.
  • Act as a mentor/preceptor for all trained and untrained staff and support colleagues when training has been provided.
  • Develop and maintain own clinical skills and knowledge to deliver holistic, evidence‑based nursing care.
  • Accountable for practice in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct; continually improve knowledge and professional competence.
  • Maintain professional practice and meet NMC revalidation requirements.
  • Take all precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, service users, visitors, and the public by implementing health, safety, security, and risk policies.
  • Actively participate in the appraisal process.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of recent Continuous Professional Development.
  • Nursing degree or working towards a nursing degree.
  • Qualifications in mentorship.
Experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of escalation and recognition of deteriorating patient.
  • Flexibility to work in other areas of Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust when/if required to ensure safe patient care.
  • Experience of working in an acute care setting.
  • Experience of working in a respiratory care setting.
