Join the Harrogate BID team as Marketing and Communications Officer

The Harrogate BID team is looking to recruit a Marketing and Communications Officer.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a confident and creative communicator who can bring our work to life and help us tell the story of Harrogate town centre.

This is a varied, hands on role in a small and supportive team. One day you might be creating content from a town centre event, the next writing a press release, producing a business newsletter or sharing results of a BID project. You will have space to bring forward your own ideas and see the difference your work makes.

We are not looking for someone who ticks every possible box. We are looking for a strong communicator with good judgement, a practical approach and the enthusiasm to get involved.

About Harrogate BID

Harrogate BID is a business-led, not-for-profit company funded by around 500 businesses in Harrogate town centre. We work to improve the trading environment, increase footfall and strengthen Harrogate’s position as a leading destination for shopping, business, leisure and tourism.
Our  Business Plan is built around three priorities:

  • Pride in our Town - improving the appearance, welcome and safety of the town centre
  • A Vibrant Town - creating events and experiences that give people more reasons to visit
  • Voice and Vision - representing local businesses and helping shape Harrogate’s future
What you will do
  • Plan and create engaging content for Instagram, Facebook, Linked In and Tik Tok, including photographs, reels and short videos
  • Write clear, lively copy for press releases, newsletters, campaigns, the website and business updates
  • Build positive working relationships with local and regional media and respond sensibly to media enquiries
  • Keep the Harrogate BID website accurate, current and useful
  • Create straightforward, on-brand graphics using Canva or similar software
  • Support campaigns that promote Harrogate, its businesses and BID-funded projects
  • Use our CRM system to maintain contact information, mailing lists and communication records
  • Use data such as footfall and spend data to help explain the impact of our work
  • Produce concise marketing and communication reports for the CEO and Board of Directors
  • Support BID events and town centre activity, including occasional evening or weekend work
  • Play an active part in the wider team and help with shared tasks when needed
What we are looking for
  • Strong written English and the ability to adapt your style for businesses, the media and the public
  • Experience creating content for social media, websites, newsletters or campaigns
  • Confidence producing simple visual and video content
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage several pieces of work at the same time
  • Sound judgement, particularly when handling public comments or reactive communications
  • A friendly and professional approach to working with local businesses and partners
  • A practical, positive attitude and willingness to get involved
