The service is dedicated to providing the highest standards of safe and effective care to sick children and their families / carers from admission to discharge in an appropriate, child friendly environment by appropriately trained and highly skilled staff.
The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and be a source of advice and expertise for others in the Trust who may work with children (e.g. ENT, Outpatients, Accident & Emergency, Orthopaedics, Dentistry), demonstrating care, compassion and best standards of care. To demonstrate good leadership skills to steer nursing staff through times of change.
Strong, professional leadership qualities are needed at this level. It is critical to the quality of care, staff morale, and the learning environment.
In liaison with the Ward Manager and other sisters / charge nurses, the post holder will be responsible for leading and coordinating a dedicated team of nursing and support staff to ensure the highest standards of care for patients on the ward in line with the 6 C s.
Provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to nursing staff within the ward.
Contribute to managing the nursing and material resources of the ward in a flexible and cost effective way.
The post holder will adhere to the NMC Code of Practice at all times and ensure ward compliance with and application of hospital policies and procedures.
Main duties of the jobTo work with the children and family / carers to provide specialist nursing knowledge and care, including empathy and reassurance from admission through to discharge.

Person Specification- Registered NMC qualification for Child Nursing
- Educated to post graduate level/ diploma in nursing or related field or equivalent experience.
- To be a registered practice assessor (SLIPS/ENB
998) - To provide knowledge and / or evidence of preceptorship experience
- Senior staff nurse - considerable post registration experience in Paediatrics
- EPALS Qualification
- Evidence of post registration education
- Previous Band 6 experience
