Job DescriptionThe Clinical Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine is responsible for providing hands‑on instruction, supervision, and evaluation of dental students in the clinical environment. This individual plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of high‑quality patient care while fostering student development in clinical reasoning, technical proficiency, professionalism, and patient‑centered communication. Clinical faculty also contribute to calibration efforts, assessment, and the continuous improvement of clinical education in alignment with the dental schools mission.
Required QualificationsDDS , DMD , or equivalent dental degree from an accredited institution. Eligibility for dental licensure or a faculty permit in the state of employment. Clinical experience in general dentistry or a dental specialty. Commitment to excellence in teaching, clinical education, and patient care.
Preferred QualificationsPrior teaching experience in a dental school or academic health center. Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Axi Um). Familiarity with CODA accreditation standards. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and student success.

Job Responsibilities- Clinical Instruction:
Supervise and instruct predoctoral dental students during the provision of patient care. Provide real‑time feedback and support to students on clinical procedures and decision‑making. Ensure that patient care is delivered according to current standards, guidelines, and best practices. - Assessment and Evaluation:
Evaluate student performance using objective criteria and grading rubrics. Participate in clinical competency assessments and milestone evaluations. Document student progress and provide constructive feedback for improvement. - Patient Care Oversight:
Ensure comprehensive, ethical, and patient‑centered care is delivered by student providers. Monitor treatment planning, informed consent, diagnosis, and execution of dental care. Support compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. - Faculty Calibration and Professional Development:
Participate in faculty calibration sessions to ensure consistent evaluation standards. Engage in continuing education to remain current in clinical procedures and teaching techniques. Contribute to peer mentoring and collaborative faculty learning communities. - Support of Inclusive Excellence:
Foster a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for students and patients of diverse backgrounds. Model inclusive practices in patient care and student interactions. - Curriculum Support:
Collaborate with course directors and academic leaders to align clinical instruction with didactic content. Provide input into curriculum development, quality assurance, and clinical policies as appropriate. - Mentorship and Advising:
Serve as a mentor to students, supporting their professional development and career planning. Identify students in need of remediation and work with the academic team to support their success. - Participation in Institutional
Activities:
Attend faculty meetings, clinical calibration sessions, and department functions. Serve on committees and participate in special events and school‑wide initiatives as appropriate. - Community and Outreach:
Participate in community service and outreach programs that promote the mission of the dental school. Support off‑site rotations or community‑based clinical education experiences, if assigned. - Other Duties as Assigned:
Perform additional responsibilities as directed by department chairs, assistant deans, or the dean to support the goals and mission of the institution.
