Because LEAPS is a state-grant-funded program, the job description focuses heavily on academic tutoring, positive youth development, and meticulous attendance/grant compliance tracking.
Job SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Program Site Coordinator and school administration, the LEAPS Paraprofessional supports student success during out-of-school hours. They lead small-group activities, reinforce foundational learning targets, and ensure a safe, organized environment.
Key Responsibilities & Duties Instructional & Academic Support- Small-Group Tutoring:
Lead targeted interventions and homework assistance in foundational subjects like reading, math, and science. - Enrichment Delivery:
Implement pre-planned enrichment activities, focusing on STEM, literacy development, fitness, and nutrition. - Student Engagement:
Adapt activities to support diverse learning needs, keeping students motivated and actively participating
- Safe Transitioning:
Actively supervise students during transitions from the regular school day to the after school program, including snack time, recess, and dismissal. - Positive Behavior Framework:
Enforce program rules consistently using positive behavior interventions (like PBIS) to reduce distractions and resolve minor conflicts.
Safety Accountability:
Maintain a headcount and account for all students at all times, including during outdoor or recreational activities.
- Meticulous Record-Keeping:
Record daily attendance, student arrival/departure times, and sign-out logs required for state grant audit reporting. - Logistics Support:
Assist with setting up learning environments, distributing snacks according to USDA guidelines, and cleaning up activity stations. - Confidentiality:
Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding student behaviors, personal records, and academic progress.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move dynamically for extended periods.
- Willingness to supervise outdoor physical and wellness activities.
- High levels of patience, empathy, and strong communication skills necessary for engaging with children and families.
