Job Summary

The employee is responsible for work performed in the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes and accidents. Duties also include protecting property, facilities, and people through the enforcement of laws and ordinances under the direct supervision of the Police Sergeant / Deputy Chief of Campus Police and Security. Independent judgment is used according to the situation, and sometimes different courses of action must be taken to complete the task.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must reveal any and all criminal charges, even if dismissed or expunged.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony or a serious misdemeanor involving Moral Turpitude.
• Must not have been released or discharged under any other than Honorable conditions from the U.S. Armed Forces.
• Must have fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
• Must pass a medical examination by a licensed physician.
• Must pass a drug screen by a licensed physician.
• Must have a good moral character as determined by investigation.
• Must be free of all apparent mental disorders per DSM‑5 and be certified by a qualified psychiatric professional.
• Must possess a valid Tennessee operators license.
• Must pass a physical–agility test.

• Completed a POST approved Police Academy with satisfactory score in all fields, including firearms qualifications, physical education, and defensive techniques.
• Minimum of three years experience in security or law enforcement work.

• Promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.
• Must be able to fire a weapon accurately.
• Patrols by foot or motor vehicle the streets and Campus community.
• Enforce County ordinances and State laws; investigate suspected crimes, report findings, and arrest suspected individuals.
• Investigate accidents involving persons or property.
• Report probable cause of accidents and pursue appropriate course of action.
• Direct and control traffic, testify in court or legal proceedings, issue written citations, operate and maintain all law enforcement equipment, and make written accident reports.
• Must be able to defend himself/herself and others with or without the use of deadly force.
• Must react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and determine proper course of action.
• Make arrests when necessary.
• Understand and enforce laws and ordinances.
• Exert physically for short periods, such as running and lifting.
