Learning Support Assistant (LSA) - 1:1 Specialist Role

Full-Time Long-Term Immediate Start

Tara Professional Education are recruiting for an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to take on a specialist 1:1 role within a supportive SEND school environment. This is a long-term opportunity supporting a pupil who has recently joined the school and requires consistent, skilled 1:1 support during their transition back into a formal educational.

The Pupil & Context:

The pupil you will support:

  • Is secondary-aged
  • Has SEND needs, including Autism (ASD) and/or Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Has been home educated for the past two years
  • Has recently started at the school and is currently on a part-time timetable
  • Is expected to gradually increase attendance towards mid-next half term

This is a key role focused on building trust, routine, and engagement, supporting a successful reintegration into education.

The Role:

As the dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day
  • Support emotional regulation, communication, and engagement
  • Help the pupil develop confidence with routines and expectations
  • Adapt learning and activities to suit the pupil's current developmental level
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SEND specialists, and pastoral teams
  • Support a phased increase in timetable and school attendance

Experience & Suitability:

This role requires an LSA who:

  • Has essential experience within SEND settings
  • Has supported pupils with ASD and/or SLD
  • May have experience in Primary or Secondary settings (both are equally valued)
  • Is calm, patient, consistent, and emotionally intelligent
  • Understands the importance of structure during educational transitions

This is not a generic LSA role, it is suited to someone confident in 1:1 SEND support who understands behaviour as communication.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working in SEND settings
  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or SLD (essential)
  • 2 years of professional references
  • Availability to start as soon as possible
  • Ability to commit to a long-term placement that would likely lead to a Permanent & salaried post at this school
  • Available for a Trial Period via Tara Education as soon as possible

Why This Role?

This is a meaningful opportunity to work closely with one pupil during a crucial transition period. The school is supportive, well-resourced, and values consistency for its learners. For the right Learning Support Assistant, this role offers stability, professional trust, and the chance to make a genuine long-term impact. Due to our long established partnership with the school, this is guaranteed long term booking to last either indefinitely or until you/the school wish for you to join Permanently.
