An 'Outstanding' SEN school in Harrow is looking for an experienced and approachable SEN Teaching Assistant for a position starting ASAP working with autistic pupils.

For this position you will need to be an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who has worked with pupils who either have Severe Learning Difficulties or who are on the autistic spectrum.

You will mainly be working with Key Stage 2 pupils who all have a diagnosis of autism and have significant delay in their academic and social ability. Many of these students have limited communication skills and as a result experience working with students who have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) would be advantageous. This lovely Harrow SEN school uses PECS and Makaton in class to support the student's communication development.

• Work in a class of 8 pupils alongside another experienced SEN TA and a specialist SEN Teacher.
• Support pupils' academic and social development and communication using PECS and Makaton.
• Manage tasks independently, demonstrating emotional intelligence, appropriate tone of voice, word choice and body language.
• Maintain concentration, multitask and bring energy and enthusiasm to the job.

• Experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant with pupils who have Severe Learning Difficulties or are on the autistic spectrum.
• Experience working with pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
• Good knowledge of PECS and Makaton preferred – but not mandatory.
• Willingness to undergo training and demonstrate passion, initiative and a willingness to get stuck in.

Please note that personal care (feeding and changing) is a part of the job and applicants who would not be prepared to undertake these tasks after training will not be considered for the post.
