About the School

This inclusive and community-focused Primary and Nursery School in Harrow is committed to supporting the academic, emotional, and social development of every child. The school serves a diverse local population and has a strong reputation for its nurturing ethos, early intervention strategies, and commitment to emotional wellbeing.

School leaders recognise that behaviour is closely linked to emotional development, particularly in the early years. As a result, the school has invested heavily in pastoral support, behaviour mentoring, and SEND provision. Due to an increase in the number of pupils requiring additional behavioural and emotional support across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join its team.

Role Overview

The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with pupils who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour for learning, social interaction, or school routines. Many children supported in this role may have SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or delayed emotional development.

This is a highly rewarding role that requires patience, empathy, and resilience. You will act as a consistent, trusted adult, helping children to feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for identified pupils
  • Deliver small group interventions focused on emotional literacy and social skills
  • Support children within Nursery and classroom environments
  • Assist pupils during transitions, playtimes, and lunchtime periods
  • Implement individual behaviour support plans and strategies
  • Use play-based, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, EYFS staff, and the SENCO
  • Monitor and record progress, behaviour patterns, and outcomes
  • Attend review meetings and contribute professional observations
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers
  • Support safeguarding and child protection procedures
The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be calm, nurturing, and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should have experience working with children who present with challenging behaviour and a strong understanding of early childhood development.

The school is looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting
  • Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, or attachment-based approaches
  • A consistent and positive approach to behaviour support

    Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Emotional resilience and adaptability
  • A proactive and reflective mindset

Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health are advantageous but not essential.

Training and Professional Development

The school offers extensive training and ongoing professional development opportunities. Behaviour Mentors receive regular supervision, access to specialist training, and support from experienced SEN and pastoral leaders. This role is ideal for individuals considering careers in teaching, SEN support, educational psychology, or pastoral leadership.

What the School Offers
  • A welcoming and supportive working environment
  • Strong leadership and a collaborative staff team
  • High-quality CPD and mentoring
  • A rewarding role with visible impact on children’s lives
  • Opportunities for long‑term and permanent roles
Safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks, references, and safer recruitment procedures.
