Sessional Tutor – Adult Learning, Harrow Council
This full‑time on‑site position offers great opportunities for career growth and the chance to work with a brilliant and supportive team. The role is based at the Kenton Learning Centre, 86 Glebe Ave, Harrow HA3 9LF
, and commences in September.
- Carry out initial and diagnostic assessments for adult learners.
- Deliver group‑based accredited and non‑accredited courses in areas such as ESOL & English, Digital Skills, IT User Skills, Vocational Skills, Business admin, and employability.
- Maintain attendance registers, records of progress and ensure learners are enrolled on the appropriate levels.
- Create teaching and learning materials and resources, including differentiated and individualised resources.
- Teach blended learning and online classes through Google Classroom.
- Help learners improve employability skills through continuous assessment, marking, and examinations.
- Check and assess learners’ work and provide timely feedback.
- Analyse data and set targets to raise standards of retention and achievement.
- Work within the Learn Harrow Quality framework, ensuring services meet contract standards.
- Maintain effective and efficient administrative procedures.
- Professional teaching qualification (Level3 or
4). - Relevant qualification from the digital skills sector and/or other vocational sectors.
- Experience with IT skills, advanced MS Office, and e‑learning platforms, especially Google Classroom.
- Experience teaching accredited courses and assessing student work.
- Experience with Ofsted or other external observations.
- Experience teaching diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience implementing safeguarding, Prevent and British Values.
- Qualification or experience in learning difficulties and disabilities (strongly desirable).
- A1 Assessor certification for Digital Skills.
- Experience assessing portfolios and end‑of‑course exams.
- Experience with vocational courses such as Health & Social Care, Adult Care, etc.
- Experience in creating individualised learning plans for learners with learning difficulties.
- Adaptability and flexibility.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening and presentation skills.
- Strong coaching and teaching ability.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with online learning platforms and MS Office.
- Knowledge of internal quality assurance processes.
