To undertake the role of Team Leader, assuming ongoing responsibility for effective room management and the smooth, efficient running of theatre lists. This includes the appropriate deployment, coordination, and supervision of staff within the department to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. The post-holder will provide teaching, guidance, and supervision to pre-registration students, unqualified staff, registered nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, non-clinical personnel, and patients, supporting their development and promoting a positive learning environment.

  • Maintain a safe, controlled, and supportive environment for all patients undergoing surgical procedures within the department, ensuring that high standards of perioperative care are consistently upheld.
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership as the lead member of the theatre team, offering expert advice and supporting colleagues in delivering safe and effective practice.
  • Act as a visible role model, leading the team with professionalism and confidence while providing skilled assistance to the surgical team across a range of procedures.
  • Take managerial responsibility for an allocated theatre area, coordinating staff, liaising with relevant disciplines, and offering specialist advice to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.
  • Foster an environment that supports high-quality care, effective communication, and positive working relationships between staff, patients, and visitors, promoting a culture of respect, safety, and teamwork.

Job responsibilities CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver high quality, evidence based perioperative care in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised patient care, ensuring a holistic approach throughout the perioperative pathway.
  • Provide skilled and competent scrub assistance to the surgical team, ensuring safe practice, aseptic technique, and adherence to local and Trust guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient documentation, reviewing and updating records as required.
  • Ensure the safe custody, administration, and documentation of medicines in line with Trust policy, reporting discrepancies immediately.
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, demonstrating knowledge of resuscitation, fire safety, infection control, and moving and handling procedures.
