HR Generalist - Germany (Munich based)

This pivotal role sits within URBN’s shared service function of the HR & Talent Department. The HR Generalist will support the Retail HR team across all German stores, reporting to the HR Manager for the EU and working closely with the Retail Talent team. Building strong relationships with stakeholders is essential. The ideal candidate is a German‑speaking HR professional, currently at the HR Advisor level, ideally within a retailer, and demonstrates resilience, drive, and a results‑focused approach.

• Act as point of contact for all retail HR‑related queries
• Provide employee relations advice to employees and line managers, ensuring a best‑practice approach
• Ensure issues are dealt with following company policy
• Collaborate with HR colleagues to monitor, review and update policy, keeping it aligned with business needs
• Ensure compliance with UK and European employment law and proactively seek updates
• Prepare and issue correspondence in relation to ER cases
• Communicate all ER case information to the HR Coordinator to keep trackers up‑to‑date

• Support the HR and L&D team in preparing and delivering training courses
• Conduct training‑needs analyses for retail employees and recommend opportunities to match business needs
• Coordinate and roll‑out annual HR processes, drive improvements to the appraisal process and support line managers
• Proactively identify and address performance issues with line managers, recommending best practices
• Work with the HR Coordinator to manage induction and onboarding for new starters

• Support the annual engagement survey process and use findings to inform relationship building and actions
• Communicate reward and benefits for UK and EU retail populations in a proactive and engaging manner
• Build comprehensive knowledge of pay and benefits structures, benchmark against competitors and report findings quarterly
• Manage employee wellbeing initiatives for retail

• Review monthly payroll spreadsheets for accuracy and timeliness before communicating to Payroll
• Conduct exit interviews with retail management employees, flag issues and report findings quarterly
• Analyze HR KPIs and report data monthly, bi‑annually and annually
• Support the HR Manager to ensure compliance with sponsor license requirements and right‑to‑work processes
• Participate in ad‑hoc HR projects with the team

• Experience as an HR Advisor in a fast‑paced, creative business
• Good knowledge of German employment law and employer requirements
• Work‑council relationship management in Germany (preferred)
• Knowledge of local German HR policies and processes
• Written and verbal German & English communication skills
• Flexibility to travel to Germany regularly
• Ability to build strong, credible relationships quickly and be trusted at all levels
• Robustness to combine a creative, innovative approach with commercial ideas
• High attention to detail and ability to identify priorities quickly
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
