Long Term Futures is looking for a patient, nurturing, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support two pupils in Year 4 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SPLT). This role is ideal for someone passionate about developing children's communication skills and confident working with structured speech & language strategies.
About the Role
Working closely with the class teacher and external SALT professionals, you will play a key part in helping both pupils develop their expressive and receptive language, social interaction, and confidence. This is a hands-on role where your consistency and communication style will directly influence pupil progress.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
* Providing 1:1 and small-group support targeting speech, language and communication
* Delivering SALT-led interventions and modelling language throughout the school day
* Using visuals, PECS, Makaton or other communication tools to support understanding
* Encouraging turn-taking, attention and listening, and social interaction during learning and play
* Supporting learning during English, maths and topic lessons, adapting tasks where needed
* Tracking progress and feeding back to teachers and therapists to ensure strategies remain effective
* Helping create a calm, structured, communication-friendly classroom environment
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or speech & language needs
* Knowledge of or willingness to learn SALT strategies, interventions and communication tools
* Warm, calm, and encouraging approach to help build confidence and independence
* Strong communication skills and the ability to model clear, consistent language
* Proactive, reliable and committed for the full academic year
