Job SummaryProvides dental patient care, office and laboratory duties according to Department of Dentistry standards and policies along with scope of practice for the State of Connecticut. Maintains HIPAA practices and all relevant regulatory compliance and safety requirements.
Responsibilities- Provides support to dentist, surgeons, hygienist and staff as needed; assists chair-side, hands instruments and materials to dentists, maintains filed of operation during dental procedures through appropriate technique such as suction, irrigation, drying, or other devices (Four-Handed Dentistry); prepares materials for impressions and restorations; completes dental x-rays and processes x-ray film as directed by dentist; prepares, supports, counsels and calms patients for treatment;
obtains and updates dental records; transports patients. - Assist in the preparation, maintenance and care of supplies, equipment and facilities within the Department of Dentistry; monitors and documents room inventory, res ups treatment area on a daily basis and monthly; maintain a surgically clean work environment; sterilizes dental equipment; prepares instrument trays for dental procedures; assists with clerical duties including office duties, schedule and confirm appointments, receive patients, keep treatment records;
updates and maintains patient dental records. - Provides patient care assistance utilizing age-specific competencies (geriatric, adult, pediatric, etc.) to meet each patient’s unique needs.
- Provides patient education regarding oral care and prevention of oral disease, provides pre and postoperative instruction, offers patients recommendations and materials necessary to maintain good dental health.
- Completes no less than one hour of training or education in infection control in a dental setting every two years; maintains up-to-date patient care and technical knowledge.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Certified Dental Assistant Training Program preferred.
- Successful completion of Infection Control Education (ICE).
- Successful completion of Radiography Health & Safety (RHS).
- Successful completion of DANB CDA Certification:
General Chairside Assisting (GC). - Two years experience in a dental practice preferred.
- CPR certification.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
