JOB SUMMARY
UConn’s Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy (IMRP) is seeking a qualified Program Assistant to provide administrative and programmatic support. In particular, the Institute is seeking a Program Assistant for various justice-related initiatives, including, but not limited to, the Children with Incarcerated Parents Initiative. Under the direction of a program manager or director, the Program Assistant will assist with the day-to-day administrative activities of the programs.
The IMRP is a dynamic, non-partisan organization that strives to effectively inspire and sustain a just, equitable, and inclusive Connecticut through independent research and evaluation, public policy analysis and development, and community engagement. The IMRP is situated within UConn’s School of Public Policy and housed at the UConn Hartford campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist with general office operations and processes and maintain the necessary paperwork, records, and files required to support the program.
- Serve as a resource and respond to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and others affiliated with the University, as well as from community members, state and municipal government leaders, and others external to the University, regarding program policies, procedures, and requirements, making referrals as appropriate.
- Compile data and assist in the preparation of reports to support program activities and publicize program achievements.
- Assist in advising students or partners regarding program activities. Explain program policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Provide administrative and technical support as well as program logistics for program faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of program activities, research, training, conference presentations, and events.
- Represent the program at the designation, or in the absence of the program manager or director.
- Review, copy, edit, and/or develop and design research, informational, and promotional materials.
- Assist in establishing and preparing budgets and monitoring financial activity for an assigned area.
- Perform related work as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Two to three years of related professional experience.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.
- Four or more years of related professional experience.
- Experience with funded projects involving research, technical assistance, policy, and/or program development.
- Experience working in a university setting.
- Experience developing and maintaining relationships with numerous diverse community partners.
- Experience assisting commissions, task forces, advisory boards, or other government or quasi‑government entities.
- Experience in public policy, research, criminal justice, or social justice.
This position is a full-time, 12‑month, end‑dated position, with the possibility of renewal dependent upon the availability of funding and the candidate’s performance. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
