Position Summary

Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The Watkinson Library serves as a public research library, the rare book and special collections of Trinity College, and the repository of the College archives. The mission of the Watkinson Library is to collect, preserve, and make accessible unique and rare materials of enduring research value while engaging the public and the Trinity community to use these collections. The fixed-term Processing Archivist will accession, arrange, and describe archival and manuscript collections within the College Archives.

Trinity College is celebrating its bicentennial in  and the Bicentennial Processing Archivist will play an important role in processing a backlog of analog collections within the Trinity College Archives.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required or 3 years of relevant work experience or specialized training that can be used in lieu of education requirement.
• Less than 12 months of experience required; 1-3 years preferred.
• Master’s degree in archives administration, library/information science, history, or other relevant field from an accredited program, and/or archival certification in the Academy of Certified Archivists.
• One or more years’ experience processing archival/manuscript collections, including handwritten materials. Experience working with large or un-foldered collections.
• Experience with Archives Space.
• Training or knowledge of proper handling and basic preservation concepts for mainly analog formats, including textual records, still images, magnetic tape, film stock, and VHS.
• Experience applying descriptive and other metadata standards, particularly DACS and EAD.
• Ability to work collaboratively in establishing priorities, coordinating complex projects, and meeting goals.
• Ability and interest in facilitating use of archival collections through metadata informed by cultural context, privacy restrictions, and copyrights.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
