Principal Engineer – Rotating Machinery

HSB – Hartford Steam Boiler is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert in rotating machinery. The role focuses on gas turbines, steam turbines, and other rotating equipment used in power generation, heavy industry, data centers, offices, etc. The engineer will develop risk engineering standards, loss models, and provide guidance on loss prevention activities.

• Evaluate equipment operation and maintenance to understand functionality and identify potential failure modes.
• Analyze equipment risks associated with new opportunities.
• Develop risk engineering standards and best practices for assigned equipment and industries.
• Provide guidelines for ongoing engineering loss prevention activities.
• Assist in claim investigations and review loss data.
• Develop training materials for both technical and non‑technical personnel.
• Build relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to stay informed about industry trends.

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Advanced graduate degree or Professional Engineer registration is a plus.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience working in design, operation, maintenance, testing, commissioning, or repair services for gas turbines or steam turbines.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Excel or other tools to carry out basic data analysis.
• Strong desire to stay up to date with industry developments and advancements.
• Inquisitive and enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn about new equipment and processes.
