Transportation Planner 1 (2026 New Graduates!)
Under direct supervision, gathers, compiles and analyzes transportation data including traffic counters, flow data, etc. to create basic complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems (roads; bridges; highways; tunnels; tolls; etc.). Reviews existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary. Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation system including: new systems;
upgrades or updates to existing systems; re-routing of systems; reviews of existing systems; etc. Creates transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as necessary, to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input. Leads and performs traffic count and safety studies. Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans. Reviews transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state and federal laws.
Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary. Performs other duties as required. Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze or resolve transportation conceptual /schematic design issues.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills and AbilitiesBasic knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by all transportation modes, and understanding of current transportation trends/issues. Basic knowledge of, government regulations, and agency rules. Basic knowledge of the practical application of regional and community planning. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, models and equipment to study and/or design of movement of people, goods and services. Good written and oral communication skills.
