Union Organizer / Staff Representative
Based in Hartford, CT

CSEA SEIU Local 2001 is a strong voice for public service workers in Connecticut, representing over 20,000 workers throughout the State of Connecticut. Strong advocates in the workplace and with elected officials is driven by our commitment to developing rank-and-file leadership. We are affiliated with Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing over 2 million workers nationwide.

CSEA seeks an exceptional Organizer and Union Representative who is committed to building a powerful and democratic union.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, recruit, and develop workplace leaders
  • Visit worksites to build relationships with members, identify and resolve workplace issues, and to demonstrate a Union presence to both the members and management
  • Interpret and enforce the collective bargaining agreement
  • Represent members at grievance hearings, including investigation, preparation, and presentation
  • Serve as chief advocate in arbitration
  • Lead contract bargaining and contract campaigns
  • Conduct new member orientation

Qualifications:

  • Labor, community, political, or other organizing experience, previous experience as a union organizer or representative preferred
  • Well organized and committed to building the union
  • Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and manage time and priorities.
  • Good listener; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An automobile and a valid driver's license are required
  • Knowledge of relevant labor law is preferred
  • Spanish language fluency is preferred
