Machine Operator (Structural)

Join Shepard Steel Co. Inc. – we’re looking for an experienced Equipment Operator to run one or several types of power fabrication machines in our structural shop.

Under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor, the employee will be responsible for operating machines such as a Drill Line, Saw, Cut-off Tool, Shot Blaster, and other fabrication equipment.

• Read and interpret drawings, written instructions, and diagrams to perform tasks.
• De-bur and grind metal as necessary to achieve the proper surface texture per job specifications.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding and fabrication trade, including portable grinders.
• Analyze blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work orders.
• Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
• Assist with repair and maintenance of equipment, making emergency adjustments or assisting with major repairs as necessary.
• Keep records of material or equipment usage or problems encountered.
• Operate conveyors and overhead cranes to move material.
• Clean and lubricate machines per manufacturer’s specifications.
• Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge of steel fabrication process.
• Knowledge of structural shapes a plus.
• Ability to speak, read and write in English.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Physically capable of lifting, pushing, pulling 70 pounds unassisted.
• Physically capable of bending, twisting, and standing for long periods of time.
• Able to work well with minimal supervision and with other technicians.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures.
• Self-motivated, detail oriented, and has a positive attitude.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Must be willing to submit a drug test and background check.
