Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Cardiac Surgery

Hartford Health Care’s nationally recognized Heart & Vascular Institute seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Department of Cardiac Surgery, a prestigious 15-star Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) program.

Location Detail: 80 Seymour Street

Role: Open to Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners

Location: 79 Jefferson Street, Hartford, 06102

Setting: Inpatient, cardiac surgery

Schedule: Full-time 3x13s, rotating. Premium differentials offered.

Call schedule: No call

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert, compassionate care to patients in our 18-bed Cardiac Surgery intensive care unit (ICU), step-down unit, and floor settings.
  • Manage preoperative and postoperative care for cardiac surgery patients.
  • Perform bedside procedures including central venous and arterial line placement, intra-aortic balloon pump removal, etc.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing advanced procedures, including heart transplants, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), mechanical circulatory support, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, developing individualized care plans, and closely monitoring progress.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of teamwork and concise communication to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Support seamless transitions of care between the ICU, step-down, and floor settings.
  • Provide patient and family education, ensuring a clear understanding of the surgical process and recovery journey.

Qualifications

  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN), preferably with 1+ years of relevant experience in Cardiac Surgery, critical care, or surgical settings.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut.
  • Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills.
