Assistant Nurse Manager - Neuro Surgical ICU

Location: 81 Retreat Ave HH Core Bldg (10067)

Shift: 4, 10-hour shifts

The Neuro-Surgical ICU is a 17-bed adult inpatient unit caring for critically ill neuroscience and neurosurgical patients, including stroke, head and spinal cord trauma, and brain hemorrhage. Nurses in this specialty monitor intracranial pressures, brain tissue oxygenation, and hemodynamic status and collaborate with neuro-intensivists, physician assistants, and ARNPs to provide high-quality care.

Job Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) who supervises patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, patient- and family-centered care in support of the hospital’s strategic goals. This role provides daily department oversight, including off-shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff. Responsibilities include resource management, quality improvement, payroll, scheduling, and monitoring patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinical operations.

The position also maintains a safe and therapeutic unit environment and may assist as a staff RN when needed. It supports leadership in standards of excellence and professional development and may lead Performance Improvement activities in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the assigned department, including off-shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non-licensed staff.
  • Manage resources, payroll, staff scheduling, and patient throughput to ensure efficient clinical operations.
  • Provide a safe and therapeutic unit environment and assist as a staff RN as needed.

  • Participate in or lead Performance Improvement initiatives within the department.

Qualifications

  • Current Connecticut RN License.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN Required; MSN Preferred).
  • BLS certification by the American Heart Association; ACLS certification; and proof of Arrhythmia Certification required prior to date of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years of Acute Care RN experience required, with 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
