Environmental Trainee (35 Hour) Hybrid #ES-001
Join the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) as an Environmental Trainee in the Bureau of Materials Management & Compliance Assurance (MMCA), Sustainable Materials Management Policy and Planning (SMMPP) Division. This hybrid position offers a 35‑hour work week with flexible Monday‑Friday hours.

Monday‑Friday; 35 hours/week. - Based out of DEEP Headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut.
- As an Environmental Trainee, you may assist with implementing the State’s Commercial Organics Recycling Law, manage and coordinate GIS‑based work, perform statistical analyses, and other related duties.
- Training classification: one to three years; successful completion leads to promotion to Environmental Analyst 1.
During the first year of training: $47,229 per year for a Bachelor’s degree holder; $48,933 for a Master’s degree holder.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the implementation of the Commercial Organics Recycling Law.
- Manage and coordinate GIS data projects.
- Conduct statistical analyses of environmental data.
- Support related environmental duties as assigned.
- Basic theories, principles, and practices of environmental policy analysis.

- Interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, research, and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret legislation and technical data; utilize computer software.
- Meeting the experience and training requirements for the designated job class upon completion of the training program.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific or technical discipline related to environmental fields.
- Experience/practice in sustainable materials management and related policies.
- Experience communicating environmental results verbally and in writing.
- Experience researching, evaluating, and analyzing environmental reports and data.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS software.
Incumbents may be exposed to some danger of injury from on‑site environments and moderate discomfort from year‑round weather conditions.
