SAFETY

SPECIALIST JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

Under the direction of the EHS Manager, the Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, administering, and implementing company wide environmental and occupational safety programs, analysis of health and safety reports, determining trends, conducting regular training, and making recommendations to the EHS Manager on preventative or corrective measures, considering fiscal concerns and legislative requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Complies with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards.
  • Works in conjunction with the EHS Manager and other team members to establish and maintain all policies and programs to assure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules and codes related to Safety, Environmental, and Health are observed by performing routine inspections and risk assessments, maintaining detailed records, involving employees and fostering a safety‑first culture, and staying updated with regulatory changes at a federal, state and local level.
  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations and laws by managing OSHA record keeping and reporting requirements.
  • Implement and maintain a safety policy handbook and site‑specific policies that are required by law. Coordinate with the EHS Manager on development and implementation of haz‑mat procedure and policies.
  • Assist in managing the workers compensation program with the EHS Manager. Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accidents.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on‑site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
  • Plan, develop and implement safety training for employees, in accordance with company policy and regulations.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Requires a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health or related field from a four‑year college or university and two to four years industrial safety experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
