Job Summary
Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) at Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (VNH) work under the supervision of a registered Physical Therapist and in accordance with agency policies and state practice. PTAs provide physical therapy services according to a patient plan of care, acting as a member of the rehabilitation staff.
Responsibilities- Provide treatment to patients as prescribed by a physician and by initial and periodic evaluation of the patient Mesua; coordinate care under the guidance of a Registered Physical Therapist (RPT).
- Treat patients within the plan of care developed with the RPT to relieve pain, restore function, and maximize performance using exercise, massage, heat, water, light, and electrical modalities.
- Direct and aid patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re‑education, anniversary training, and transfers.
- Make use of equipment such as ultraviolet and infrared lamps, low‑vol Blues, diathermy, and ultrasonic machines.
- Observe, record, and report patient response and changes in condition to the RPT.
- Teach patients and caregivers self‑care techniques and appropriate activities.
- Arrange with the health agency for use of equipment available to patients.
- Complete and submit accurate clinical notes and required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with agency standards.
- Associate’s degree (A.S.) from an accredited school for Physical Therapy Assistants.
- Two (2) years acute care experience preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology required of a physical therapist and its practical application in the treatment of patients at home.
- Active PTA license in Vermont or New Hampshire.
- Base pay range: $24.58 /hr – $38.10 /hr (depending on experience).
