Under the direction of the Estimating Engineering Manager, the Estimating Engineer is responsible for providing cost estimates to help the manufacturing department establish a coordinated system of profitable selling prices while remaining competitive.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded from time to time to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

  • Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards.
  • Provides timely, accurate and competitive quotes of potential new business.
  • Interact with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Read, understand, and analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Determine cost estimate targets during the design and development process, recommending cost effective solutions. Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Solicit appropriate vendors or subcontractors, with clear and defined scopes of work.
  • Interact with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Review customer designs and provide technical insight.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related field from a four-year college or university and three-five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination. Must be competent with blue prints and GD&T concepts.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees to share information, solves problems, and instructs or train lesser skilled employees. Must have the ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and short correspondence. Must be able to write standard reports and documentation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
