Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Hartlepool and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit enthusiastic, motivated, and dedicated Graduate Teaching Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you’re a recent graduate looking to begin a career in education, considering teacher training, or looking to gain valuable classroom experience, we’d love to hear from you. We particularly welcome applications from graduates in Psychology, Physical Education, or other related disciplines. We have a range of long‑term, full‑time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting teachers and pupils across the classroom, helping to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience before progressing into teaching, educational psychology, or other education‑related careers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons across the primary curriculum.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils who require additional academic or pastoral support.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, learning resources, and daily routines.
  • Help to promote positive behaviour and encourage pupil engagement.
  • Support children’s social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of individual pupils where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Assist with interventions designed to improve literacy, numeracy, and confidence.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • A degree is essential, with a Psychology,Physical Education or core subject degree preferred.
  • A genuine interest in working with children and pursuing a career in education.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential (e.g. tutoring, coaching, mentoring, youth work, volunteering, or care work).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, proactive, and adaptable attitude.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • A commitment to supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and development.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
