About Emmanuel Christian School

Emmanuel Christian School is a K2–12 Christian day school located in Hartsville, SC, halfway between Charlotte, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, about 10 minutes from Darlington and 25 minutes from Florence. Founded in 1963 as a ministry of Emmanuel Baptist Church, it continues its mission—to partner with parents and the local church in pursuing educational excellence that is integrated with biblical truth.

About the Head of School

The Head of School (HOS) is responsible to work with the Lead Pastor and School Committee to assure and maintain the mission, purpose, philosophy, and standards as established by the School Board (Deacons) of Emmanuel Christian School (ECS). The HOS will oversee effective and efficient day‑to‑day management of the school in an academically challenging, socially aware, and nurturing environment. The HOS will also implement the strategic plan of ECS, which includes, but is not limited to, responsibility for the numerical growth, financial integrity, staffing, recruiting, development, promotion, and future sustainability of ECS.

Head

of School’s Responsibilities Faculty and Staff
  • Determine annual teaching assignments based on enrollment needs and employee strengths and abilities.
  • Handle all hiring and firing of school employees.
  • Plan and administer teacher and staff orientation.
  • Enforce policies as laid out in the EBC/ECS Policy Manual and Employee Handbook.
  • Implement the academic program required by our accrediting agency.
  • Work with the School Committee to develop policy changes or additions and communicate them to the deacons.
  • Maintain accurate school records.
  • Confere with parents, faculty, staff, and others regarding student progress while upholding confidentiality.
  • Approve placement of students on academic probation.
  • Oversee determination of student awards and honors.
  • Supervise annual assessments, including teacher evaluations and student testing.
  • Use data to target students, faculty, or curriculum areas for improvement.
Parents
  • Develop, maintain, and supervise the Parent/Teacher Fellowship.
  • Respond to parental concerns.
Discipline and Safety
  • Direct principals/area supervisors in executing their responsibilities.
  • Supervise the disciplinary program in keeping with school policies.
  • Confere with parents, faculty, staff, and others regarding student discipline while respecting confidentiality.
  • Approve students placed on probation, suspension, or expulsion.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment in all areas of the school (e.g., car line, furnishings, facilities, food services).
Finances
  • Work with the Campus Administrator, School Committee, and Deacons to prepare the annual school budget.
  • Determine staff salaries with the Campus Administrator and School Committee Chairman.
  • Oversee spending to ensure alignment with the budget.
  • Submit monthly financial reports to the School Committee and Deacons, including income, expenses, budget percentages year‑to‑date, and delinquent families.
  • Engage in community fundraising for advancement and endowment efforts.
Recruitment and Community Networking
  • Articulate the school’s Christian philosophy, mission, and goals clearly and forcefully.
  • Serve as the official representative in all public relations and recruitment activities.
  • Preside at formal assemblies and commencement exercises.
  • Oversee enrollment and placement processes according to ECS policies.
  • Network with local businesses, industry, and civic groups for public exposure of ECS.
Non‑Academic Supervision and Administration
