Job Summary
  • The Registered Nurse – Surgery (RN‑Surgery) provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients within an acute care hospital setting. Utilizing the nursing process, the RN‑Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes. This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process.

Functions
  • Delivers patient‑centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing process.
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policy.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care clearly and accurately.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and family.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Participates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as needed.
  • Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post‑operative care.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of patients throughout the surgical experience.
