Child Care Worker

Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill one current West Jefferson vacancy in the Department of Jefferson Community Action Program - Head Start. This list will also be used for future East and West Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur. The purpose of this position is to implement the program's curriculum, focusing on the developmental needs of preschoolers.

Under the direction of the Head Start Teacher, the employee provides supervision of children to support their total development. The employee assists the teacher in establishing a proper classroom environment and preparing the physical space for activities, rest times, and mealtimes. The employee also assists in supervising children to learn proper hygiene and eating habits and to ensure they are receiving proper medical and/or physical assistance.

The employee assists the teacher in maintaining accurate classroom records and prepares records for the children as directed by the teacher. The position requires driving to various locations and centers, and the employee must be willing to work at both West Bank and East Bank of Jefferson Parish. A valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance for business use are preferred because travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis.

• Assist the teacher in implementing the program's curriculum to meet the developmental needs of preschoolers and supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining a proper classroom environment and prepare the physical environment for activities, rest times, and mealtimes.
• Assist in supervising children to learn proper hygiene and eating habits and ensure they receive needed medical or physical assistance.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining accurate classroom records and prepare the records for the children as directed.
• Drive to various locations and centers to perform job duties; be willing to work on both West Bank and East Bank of Jefferson Parish. Driving a personal vehicle is required; possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance for business use is preferred; business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis.

• Minimum age of eighteen (18) years and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred:
  Current enrollment in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing program or possession of a CDA credential.
• Proof of education is required.
• Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (LA R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.

• The examination consists of a rating of training and experience. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience, including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment.
