Job Overview
This Certified Sub‑Arc Machine Operator position is located in our Houma, LA Fabrication Yard. The role involves fabricating iron and steel structures in accordance with contract specifications, quality assurance requirements, and ISO/QC program standards.
Essential Functions- Set and operate welding machines for applicable processes (SAW, automatic, etc.).
- Perform welding assignments for structural and pipe work in automatic welding projects.
- Pass required welding tests in accordance with AWS D1.1 latest edition.
- Maintain welding quality to pass NDT testing procedures.
- Execute welding tasks safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety practices.
- Operate applicable hand tools (chipping hammers, grinders, etc.).
- Operate high‑reaches/man lifts as required for welding above ground level.
- Follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50‑75 pounds.
- Must be a Certified Sub‑Arc Machine Operator.
- Must successfully demonstrate the ability to pass a written and practical welding test.
- Must pass a pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
- Must pass a background check.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Will train a Certified Welder on Sub‑Arc.
Welders must have knowledge of and use welding machines, man lifts, chipping and grinding equipment, cutting torches, welding leads, welding whips, and welding guns. All applicable safety equipment (welding shields, goggles, hard hats, etc.) must be used daily.
Environmental Conditions80%–90% of the work activities are performed outdoors in a shop. Workers will encounter changing temperatures and will be exposed to hot, cold, humid, wet, dry, dust, mud, and other conditions.
