Security Officer

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.

The purpose of this position is to protect persons and prevent damage or destruction to property. Employees is this position are responsible for the security and safety of the premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; and permitting entry. The employee will periodically check various structures and buildings on the park grounds. In the mornings, employee will be responsible for opening park to the public by opening gates, restrooms, check lights, etc.

Responsible for a wide variety of job functions including frequent patrols and observation, public safety, assist with search and rescue, first aid and CPR, and fire fighting for minor incidents. This position has constant contact with all park visitors and will handle simple violations of Park rules by verbal contact and verbal and written warnings. Must enforce Park rules and regulations, notify Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office to handle complaints and violations of all Jefferson Parish Ordinances and State and Federal Laws.

Employee in this position will be required to work weekends and holidays. Drives throughout park between locations. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

To qualify for employment, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be free from any condition which would prevent the safe and efficient performance of their essential duties and must have acceptable personal history backgrounds.

Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
